CORONATION Street viewers have slammed an episode as ‘dogs dinner’ and shared fears of the show ‘going down the pan’.
The ITV’s soap October 2 episode saw major turning points in a long-running storyline.
Beloved character Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) was finally laid to rest after his long struggle with motor neurone disease.
At the same time, Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) opened up to Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) about the couple’s heartfelt final phone call.
However, not all viewers were pleased, with some voicing their frustrations online. One Reddit user commented:
“Wednesday’s episode felt like a complete mess, which says a lot… it seems like the writing has really gone downhill lately.”
Another viewer expressed their frustration, writing: “I’m really not enjoying the Bernie and Billy scenes right now.
Paul would have wanted them to support Billy, no question. He always put Billy first, even getting baptised just to give him peace of mind.
I don’t like how Bernie is acting like Paul would have wanted Billy’s needs sidelined.
“It’s understandable if Bernie needs time to grieve, but Paul always prioritised Billy, and pretending otherwise is really frustrating.
The only person he’d put before Billy is Summer, and she’s being completely overlooked in all of this.”
The viewer went on to say they’d be “glad when it’s all over.”
Another person chimed in, commenting: “It’s been awful for months, even years.”
One viewer remarked, “Every now and then there’s a glimmer of good dialogue, and you think, ‘This could be interesting,’ but then they hit us with the same old, tired storylines that should’ve wrapped up long ago.”
Paul’s death last month left many viewers emotional, over a year after his diagnosis with MND.
In his final moments, he was surrounded by his loved ones, Bernie, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), and Summer (Harriet Bibby).
Sadly, Billy, who had been searching for his lost phone, arrived just moments too late to say goodbye at the hospital.
Meanwhile, in another part of the episode, Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Billie Naylor) received unexpected news.
The two girls found out that Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), their mother and stepmother, is pregnant, leaving them both in shock.
Despite Tyrone’s attempts to keep the news under wraps, Hope immediately saw through his efforts and called him a “horrible liar.”
