Did General Hospital Very Clumsily Change a Key Story Point?

General Hospital is one example of a long-running soap opera. Decades. both the beginning and the end are in one century. No one is claiming that Frank and Doris Hursley had the plot mapped out through the 60th anniversary in 2023 when they started writing GH in 1963. Gloria Monty didn’t either when she took control and ruled supreme in the 1980s.

However, we kind of hoped that those who are currently writing the show actually have some idea of the direction they intend for it to take as it develops. But it doesn’t appear to be the case.

GH: I am Woman, Hear Me Roar

Soon after Mason’s (Nathanyael Grey) enigmatic cousin started pressuring Austin (Roger Howarth) and using Ava (Maura West) and her mother and daughter as ransom, the even more enigmatic mob boss was frequently referred to as “she.”

This naturally led onlookers to believe that the woman on top was Alex, the vengeful sister of Anna (Finola Hughes), who was also Finola Hughes. Or perhaps it was Cassandra (Jessica Tuck), who was working closely with Nikolas and blackmailing Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) in 2017. It was logical. Both women were reasonable.

General Hospital: It’s a Man’s World

But then, without any forewarning or even a mention of a recent management change, the Big Bad changed to a “he.” So disregard Alex. Ignore Cassandra, please. Even the fringe candidates Selina (Lydia Look), Olivia Jerome, Helena (Constance Towers), and Tracy (Jane Elliot) should be forgotten. The boss of Mason is now a man. And all of a sudden, making assumptions isn’t as enjoyable.

Who Can It Be Now?

Perhaps Cyrus (Jeff Kober) is there? Maybe it’s Ted King’s Lorenzo Alcazar. Perhaps it’s one of the many scumbags Sonny frequently meets and growls at. In any case, the plot has become much less interesting. But not any more convincing. And all it took was a single word change.
