Although Kate Mansi is better known to General Hospital viewers as Kristina, Days of our Lives viewers adored her for years as Abigail. But behind the scenes, Mansi has been suffering greatly because her beloved dog Leighla May passed away.
Kate Mansi Mourns Her Ride or Die
Mansi titled her Instagram post, “Leighla May,” “my ride or die for 15 years. The last of which I spent wishing for “just one more year together” on each eyelash and birthday candle. She really did “put my worried mind at ease” and lived up to her name.
Mansi pointed out that her final remark was lifted from the song Layla by Eric Clapton. Shortly after losing her cherished dog, Oscar, Ashley Jones (ex-Parker, GH; Bridget, Bold and the Beautiful) took to social media. Mansi held off on telling anyone about her furry friend’s passing for a while.
Celebrating Happier Times
“This has taken me months, and I still haven’t really grieved,” the actress continues. But I suppose that’s how grief is. This is me trying, as my new favorite musician, Taylor Swift, who you may not have heard of yet, put it.
Mansi commemorated Leighla May’s birthday in January 2020. The actress said at the time, “Two things are clear. 1- They call you a human’s best friend for a reason pup. 2. I enjoy champagne a lot. Happy birthday to my dog, who doesn’t even notice that it’s her day.

During this difficult time of loss and, hopefully, healing, Mansi’s friends from the daytime offered their words of encouragement. “Kate, I’m so sorry. Sending so much love,” wrote Tamara Braun (Ava, DAYS; ex-Kim/ex-Carly, GH), another dog lover. Several heart emojis and encouraging messages were also shared by Eileen Davidson (Ashley, The Young and the Restless; formerly Kristen), Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami, DAYS), Eden McCoy (Joss, GH), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, Y&R), and Kristian Alfonso (ex-Hope, DAYS).
“Sorry for your loss, Kate,” wrote Rachel Melvin (ex-Chelsea, DAYS). “It’s the worst ever,” Along with Mansi’s family and friends, Soap Hub sends her peace during this trying time.
