Emmerdale has announced that Moira Dingle will be taking a temporary break from the show.

Moira has been through a lot recently, having been diagnosed with a meningioma, a type of brain tumor that has led to memory loss, personality changes, and seizures.

In light of her condition, she began secretly preparing a living will to spare her husband, Cain, from making difficult decisions if her surgery didn’t go as planned.

When Cain discovered Moira’s intentions, they reconciled, but she maintained her right to determine her own fate.

In the episode aired on October 30, Matty visited Butlers Farm to inform Moira and Cain about Ross Barton’s unexpected return to the village. Mandy later mentioned to Cain that Matty was taking time off work for a trip to visit Adam Barton away from home.

“We just need to pack some stuff and then get off,” Moira stated.

Cain expressed frustration over not having enough time to process Moira’s departure and was worried about the chance of her having a seizure while away.

“Don’t worry, we’ve got it all worked out,” Moira reassured him. “Matty’s going to look after my medication. I need to see Adam; you know that.”

Cain joked, “Well, the farewell tour starts here then, eh?”

Moira laughed, saying she planned to give Sir Elton John “a run for his money” after his recent Farewell Tour.

“I will be home for my operation,” she promised.

Later, they shared their farewells before Cain joined their sons to see Moira off on her trip.

The Emmerdale team is collaborating with Brain Tumour Charity and Brains Trust to depict the challenges of brain tumor diagnoses accurately.

Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira, expressed her gratitude for being entrusted with such a complex storyline, stating, “Moira and her family have an extremely challenging time ahead, and I’m hoping I can portray it in a truthful way that does justice to all the people who are really suffering with a brain tumour.”
