Channique Sterling-Brown, a cast member of Coronation Street, recently celebrated her first year on the cobbles, marking a huge milestone.

Channique, who joined the cast of the venerable ITV serial in September of last year as Dee-Dee Bailey, the daughter of Ed and Aggie, has won the hearts of devoted viewers.

In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Channique revealed that she can identify with her character and described herself as outgoing and talkative while she’s working hard, but concentrated otherwise.

I just feel like I relate to her because I feel like we are fairly similar in that regard, she added. I’m very sociable and talkative, yet when I’m focused and working hard, I’m there.

She also mentioned how personal the position of a lawyer is to her, having first explored going into law before deciding to follow her passion for acting.

“I wasn’t going to drama school at first, and I was going to train in law, and I got a place at a law school,” she said. At the last minute, I changed my mind and chose to attend acting school instead. Come back to us once you’ve worked all that acting out in your system, they said. And here I am, actually, portraying this incredible solicitor on the biggest soap opera in the nation.

Channique celebrated her year on Coronation Street by looking back on her journey on Instagram. She published a picture of herself in front of the Salford set with the recognisable “Coronation Street” sign in the backdrop. Her caption read: “One whole year of playing our DeeDee and crashing around the cobbles.”

Channique put up a collage of images that depict her experiences from the last 12 months. The collection features images from a variety of soap opera-related occasions, TV appearances, and behind-the-scenes activities on the well-known street.

“A whirlwind of a year, but we have some fun,” she said in the captions, adding a crying laughing emoji and a white heart.

Fans expressed their gratitude for Channique’s portrayal of Dee-Dee right away. Twitter user: “Omg one year of Channique playing Dee Dee, one of the best characters in years #Corrie.”

Channique recently joined her fellow cast mates for the soap’s summer party at The Ivy in Spinningfields. Claire Sweeney and Stephanie Davis, two new hires, were introduced at the occasion.

After the festivities, Channique posted beautiful pictures of herself wearing a vivid pink dress on Instagram to reflect her fatigue from a hard day on the set. In her note, she stated: “THIS Barbie just spent 10 hours on set with only 4 hours of sleep.”

Channique’s co-star Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, jokingly referred to her as “Weatherfield’s Barbie,” while Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Barlow, wrote “stunning” and a flame emoji with the words “Well done getting through today” before adding a sobbing laughing emoji to complete her response.
