In upsetting moments on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, Lydia Dingle’s childhood pal will shortly rape her, turning her world upside down.
One of Emmerdale’s most resilient couples is Lydia Dingle and Sam Dingle, played by Karen Blick and Jame Hootton, but a terrible event could separate them.
Later shots show Craig Reed (Ben Addis) and Lydia contemplating their baby’s life if he had survived as they stand over the spot where his ashes were scattered.
The two ex-lovers enjoy an intense moment as they process their sorrow, and the next day Lydia hides her close kiss from Sam a secret.
The next day, Lydia resigns from her position at work, but she becomes hesitant when Craig emphasizes how much their relationship has meant to him.
She ultimately decides to revoke her resignation but is concerned about her decision.
Craig soon makes Lydia aware of her actual feelings for her, and as he starts to pressurize her, she becomes afraid.
She is in a state of shock from the brutal assault, and Craig takes a traumatized Lydia home.
She hurries inside her house and starts crying in the hot water of the shower.
Lydia makes the decision to conceal the clothing she was wearing when she was raped from Sam and the rest of her family.
The Lydia actor Karen explained to Express.co.uk why Lydia did not immediately notify the police about the rape: “When I was reading the scripts, I was thinking, ‘Lydia you need to do this,’ but once I was done reading, I absolutely understood why she did not call the police.
“I had a lot of pity and understanding for her behavior because she feels bad, embarrassed, and like it’s somehow her responsibility that she placed herself in that predicament, which is totally false.
When this incident occurs, Lydia is at work and makes it very obvious to Craig that there is no romantic interest between them. Lydia states that she is married to Sam in a direct and succinct manner. Craig is not aware of any of that.
The actress responded to a question about her relationship with Sam by saying, “She is afraid of being believed and she doesn’t want to harm her family.
She is considering other people. How will this affect Sam? She just wants it to go away and is planning to act as though it never happened.
“Weeks later and further along, I can see the frustration with her “if only” thoughts.”
Does this imply that Lydia and Sam will eventually get a divorce when things become too challenging for her?
