EastEnders Johnny Carter star unrecognisable six years after exit as character returns

Three actors have now played Johnny Carter on EastEnders, and six years after he left the show, Ted Reilly, the second actor to take over the role, looks entirely different.

Six years after leaving the BBC soap opera EastEnders, Ted Reilly hardly resembles the same person.

The 32-year-old actor succeeded Sam Strike, who portrayed Johnny Carter from 2013 to 2014, as the second actor to play the part. Ted lived in the square for two years after making his debut in 2016 as the son of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Mick (Danny Dyer).

Ted had short hair, a clean shaven face, and a prominent jawline when he first appeared on the show. Ted’s appearance has completely changed in six years.

The celebrity now sports longer hair, with a mop of curly hair that reaches his chin. Additionally, he has developed a slight beard and a moustache on his face.

The former soap opera star acknowledged in 2018 that he had chosen to step down from the role of Johnny. He said at the time that although it was a “very tough” decision, he felt it was the best one for his career.

On social media, he wrote, “Thank you for all your lovely messages regarding EE!” “It was a really tough decision to leave, but at this stage in my career it’s very important to keep being challenged & experience new things!”

He continued: “I’ll miss the amazing people on the square especially my Carter clan!” When Johnny left the Square in a taxi, he was last seen switching from Walford to Manchester.

Charlie Suff was revealed in December to be the third actor to play the part. He debuted in the episode that aired on BBC iPlayer earlier today, Thursday, February 8.

“I’m so delighted to be joining such an iconic programme – EastEnders was always on at my house when I was growing up,” Charlie said after accepting the role. I’m excited to delve deeper into Johnny’s complicated and incredibly experienced persona.

“I find EastEnders to be the most loving and kind place to work, and I already feel like one of the family,” he went on. Chris Clenshaw, executive producer of EastEnders, continued, “I’m thrilled to welcome Charlie Suff to the character of Johnny Carter.

Even though Johnny hasn’t appeared on the Square in nearly five years, his persona is still associated with the program and The Queen Vic, which is its most famous location. The dynamics of the Carter family have evolved considerably since Johnny’s brief absence, so it’s safe to assume that Walford will be very different upon his return.”
