On July 26, her family announced her passing. Her life had been eventful, marked by both personal sorrow and professional controversy. According to Easton, “In many ways, she was the true, soulful voice of Ireland.” After converting to Islam, the Grammy-winning singer adopted the name Shuhada’ Sadaqat and was crowned Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year in 1991. She vehemently backed social justice and human rights.
