GH False Equivalence: Anna Devane & Sonny’s Shootings Are Not the Same

After inadvertently shooting Charlotte on General Hospital, Anna Devane is inconsolable. Sonny felt obliged to add his two cents, telling the story of how he once shot his own son, Dante, in the chest, since everything in Port Charles is his business. And now they’re really cool.

Anna Devane: It’s Not the Same

Therefore, Anna shouldn’t worry about her relationship with Valentin or feel guilty about it. Hey, these are the real deal, particularly in Port Charles. That being said, Sonny’s experience and Anna’s experience are not identical. These are the principal variations.

Stand Your Ground

Finola Hughes’ character Anna feared for her life. Someone was pursuing her. Her home had burned down and she had been shot at. When she arrived at her new apartment, she saw a stranger wearing a black cloak going through her belongings and carrying a large object that Anna thought was a gun.

She naturally took the shot. She was shooting at an unknown target. Anna was terrified that the previous assailant had returned to target her. When the lights came on, she only realized it was Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez), the daughter of her beloved, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart).

Dirty Screw

Because he was a mobster who killed people, Sonny (Maurice Benard) used to fear for his life. It made sense that some of those individuals would wish to retaliate. Like the police officer who’s currently in front of him. To bring Sonny down, Dante (Dominic Zapronga) had lied about who he was, posed as a part of his organization, then made it obvious that he was a police officer and put Sonny under arrest. All based on the book.

He was shot in the chest by Sonny. With Dante unconscious on the ground, Sonny was failing to assist him. Until Olivia (Lisa Locicero) stormed in and yelled that Dante was Sonny’s son, he was going to let him die. Son of Sonny? That was a different kind of mobster, that one! Abruptly, Sonny was yelling, “I love you!” and pleading with Dante to hang on while phoning for an ambulance. See, exactly like Charlotte and Anna! Not at all like Anna and Charlotte, I guess.

Different Strokes

Anna was unaware of Charlotte’s identity. She was not in custody. Even if Anna had known Charlotte was her stalker, she still wouldn’t have shot her; she wasn’t a criminal who should have been placed under arrest. Sonny’s narrative was an additional effort to hide his own history. It was not supposed to have comforted Anna in the least.
