Since 1996, Mark Charnock has played Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale, a charming character who is the nephew of Zak Dingle.

Fans of the Emmerdale soap opera have witnessed Marlon Dingle (played by Mark Charnock) take part in some of the show’s most dramatic plotlines over the years.

The actor made his cinematic debut in the late 1990s as a young 26-year-old in the Yorkshire Dales.

Due to his numerous amusing accidents, his endearing role in the ITV soap is frequently compared to one of the show’s funnier characters, Emmerdale.

Fans have, however, also witnessed Marlon taking part in some terrifying and tragic storylines throughout the years.

Express.co.uk has chosen to focus on the actor’s nearly 50-year-long portrayal of Marlon Dingle as he celebrates his 55th birthday.

Affair between Marlon and Charity

Many of his followers might not be aware that despite his long history of relationships, he once had a one-night affair with his own cousin.

After learning that her husband had falsely accused her of killing him, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and she had a fleeting affair in 2003.

Charity was granted bail and moved in with her cousin Marlon even though it turned out that he had committed suicide.

Marlon experienced severe loneliness because he missed his wife Tricia Stokes (Sheree Murphy), who spent six months filming a Bollywood movie in India.

After a few too many beers when Charity moved in, the two ended up sleeping together, which subsequently led to a pregnancy scare.

Fans, however, were relieved to learn that he was not the biological father of Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), who was actually her late husband’s child.

stroke dread

Emmerdale viewers in 2022 gasped in terror as they saw Marlon go through a terrible stroke.

His vision became hazy while he was his route to pick up an engagement ring for Rhona Goskirk (Zo Henry), and his jaw drooped to the side.

He was unable to call for assistance and was found on the floor by his small daughter April as she sprung into action and dialed an ambulance.

His future on the show was dubious when doctors confirmed he had suffered a stroke and would need surgery to remove a clot from his brain.

Fortunately, Marlon lived and has spent the past year dealing with the physical ramifications of the health scare.

The British Soap Awards this year gave Mark Charnock the Outstanding Achievement award for his performance because it was so emotional.

The actor stated of the plot: “The research was the genuinely exciting aspect of this for me.

“I was unable to handle the volume. Someone experiences a stroke in the UK every five minutes. I’m hoping that this plot would make people aware of the symptoms.

Infidelity and the dissolution of marriage

Even though he made every attempt to keep his wife from learning about his affair with Charity, Tricia soon learned of the infidelity and decided to end their relationship.

He made several attempts to win her back, but it wasn’t until he sent her a touching letter that she decided to forgive him.

However, tragedy struck in 2003 when a storm slammed the village and a portion of the Woolpack’s roof fell on her.

Tricia experienced a heart attack after being flown to the hospital, and doctors pronounced her brain dead.

Marlon was devastated and ultimately decided to remove her life support, but the next year he fell in love with Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth).

She had an affair with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), despite the fact that their relationship stayed stable for years, and Marlon was unable to move over it.

She left the hamlet in 2009 to begin a new life, but she subsequently came back with Marlon’s daughter, age 4, whom he was unaware about.

Paddy Kirk had a betrayalo hint and a bromance.

The bond between Marlon and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), particularly in light of Paddy’s deteriorating mental health this year, is frequently praised by Emmerdale viewers.

The couple has, however, experienced some ups and downs, particularly when Marlon shared a kiss with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) while Paddy was still madly in love with her.

After a protracted falling out, they reconciled and Marlon restarted his romance with Rhona in 2010.

However, once she expressed interest in Paddy, their friendship experienced a new crisis when Rhona and Paddy chose to date.

The group set aside their disagreements and worked together when Rhona opted to keep the child after finding it had Down syndrome and that she was at the time expecting Marlon’s child.

After Leo was born, there was a little custody dispute, which resulted in a brawl between the two men, who were then both detained.

In the end, they were able to put their disagreements aside. Paddy and Rhoda divorced in 2015 when she made the decision to get back together with Marlon.

However, it appears that the two are at odds once more because Paddy let him down despite promising to assist him in readjusting to driving after his health scare.
