Oh, How General Hospital’s Mighty Have Fallen: What Happened to The WSB?

Fans of General Hospital first learned that the World Security Bureau even existed in December 1980, when a dashing secret agent by the name of Robert Scorpio appeared on our screens and declared his intention to save the world.

General Hospital: World Security Bureau

O’Reilly (Billie Hayes), Robert’s cool sidekick, was played by Tristan Rogers. Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) joined him. We knew all three of them were good guys and on the side of the angels because they had recently brought down the Port Charles mob the year before. What went wrong after about 40 years, then?

Give Me a GH Hint

Yes, we were aware that not everything in the land of the WSB was ideal. The double agent status of Anna (Finola Hughes) had been revealed. She conspired with Sean (John Reilley) to take the family heirloom belonging to Felicia (Kristina Wagner). Grant (Brian Patrick Clarke), a former flame of Robert’s, nearly destroyed the world with the Prometheus Disc because Connie (not the Bensonhurst one, played by Jeanna Michaels), was unable to recognize him as a DVX spy. They therefore weren’t perfect. But when did they start acting completely corrupt?

General Hospital: Step One

We have to assume that when they gave Frico (Jack Wagner) control of the organization, things started to go wrong. a former rock star who became an agent and essentially left his wife and daughters behind. He’s not exactly a good person. We can picture him relaxing the rules. A lot.

Robert Scorpio: Last Man Standing

Recall Robert? Luke? Laura? In order to reestablish justice, truth, and the American way, who were they fighting that summer of 1981? The Cassadines were their adversaries. How on earth did Victor (Charles Shaughnessy) ever succeed in becoming the head of the WSB, then? At that point, everything started to get worse. Compared to Victor, Pikeman seems like a minor blemish.

GH: The Real World

But perhaps the WSB isn’t the real issue. Perhaps it has always been fundamentally flawed. The only difference was that we could still pretend that the government was looking out for our interests back in the 1980s. There’s no use in anyone pretending otherwise now that we know they don’t, including the WSB. Weekdays, ABC broadcasts General Hospital. For airtimes, check your neighborhood listings.
