After nearly 25 years gone from the BBC serial opera EastEnders, actress Michelle Collins is slated to return to the show and play the enduring Cindy Beale.

The actress Michelle Collins has disclosed why she departed her role as Cindy Beale on EastEnders almost 25 years ago.

When it was announced earlier this year that the star would be making a spectacular comeback and playing the same role, soap opera fans were ecstatic.

Cindy first appeared in Walford in the late 1980s, and her stay there was anything but easy. She had a number of affairs and even hired a hitman to kill her husband Ian Beale (played by Adam Woodyatt).

It was widely believed that she had perished in prison after giving birth to her daughter when she left the drama in the late 1990s, but it appears that was not the case, since she is returning to Albert Square.

The actress discussed her experience on EastEnders more than 20 years ago with her on-screen spouse Adam in a BBC Breakfast interview before making her comeback.

We were raised in people’s living rooms, she continued. It ruled your life for a full 24 hours.

“I mean, it seemed to go on forever. Some others managed it, but I managed it just fine.

“Some individuals did, while others did not. In the end, I believe that was one of the causes for my want to leave because it was so all-encompassing.

Fans learned in June of this year that Cindy had been living abroad with her family under witness protection after tipping off someone named Jackie Ford when she was incarcerated.

It turned out that because Jackie was now deceased, she was able to resume her real identity even though she had been using the name Rose for her own safety.

The shocks didn’t stop there, though, as it was later learned that she was George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) ex-wife and mother of his two children, Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna (Molly Rainford), as well as two newcomers.

The actress spoke about how it felt to realize she’d be returning as Cindy as her arrival was drawing near.

My agent messaged me, and I was like, “What?! “, she said. Yes, yes, yes. I was thus shocked.

I was curious as to how they would ever accomplish this while keeping it plausible.

“There’s a lot of explaining to do, and it’s hard for Cindy to see you again after 25 years when you’re supposed to be dead.”

What are her two girls going to think of their mother residing on the Square? And what will some elderly people think of Cindy being alive?
