On Monday, August 28, George Knight (Colin Salmon) and Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) accidentally came face to face for the first time in almost a decade, leaving each other dumbfounded.

Just weeks after it was revealed that the former is alive and well despite having been murdered off in off-screen events in the 1990s, she staged her long-awaited return to Walford.

With new information revealing that the character had, in fact, been in witness protection for twenty-five years after turning informant on cellmate Jackie Ford, brilliant writing and retconning produced television magic.

As if the writers hadn’t already outdone themselves, a subsequent twist revealed Cindy to be none other than Rose Knight, the enigmatic ex-wife of George, the new Vic landlord.

Award them with everything.

Rose was Cindy’s alias while she was residing in witness protection, though it is still unclear why she fled and abandoned George and their kids Anna (Molly Rainford) and Gina (Francesca Henry).

We do know that despite their determination to move on and begin anew without Rose, George, Anna, and Gina have found it difficult to forgive their beloved for what she done.

But they had no idea that a complete coincidence would cause their missing loved one to make her way back to Walford on the day of Anna’s 21st birthday.

Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), whose work wasn’t overlooked by the birthday girl and her sister Gina, helped George prepare the Vic for Anna’s party throughout the majority of the episode.

Meanwhile, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), a ghost from Cindy’s past, confronted Cindy as she strolled back into the Square. The two adversaries engaged in a classic slanging match at No. 45 Albert Square.

In the end, Kathy decided to put the hostility on hold for the time being and gave her deadliest enemy the order to bring some dishes to the Vic for a special birthday party. Kathy struggled to comprehend that Cindy was still alive and healthy.

Cindy followed instructions but was intercepted by Ian (Adam Woodyatt) as soon as she set foot on Bridge Street. Ian was determined to keep Cindy away from The Vic since he knew she would eventually run into her ex-boyfriend George there.

This is exactly what happened despite Ian’s attempts, with a stressed-out George taking a breather after shocking Anna with her celebration.

As George turned to face his beloved Rose, the love of his life, the smile vanished from his face, and a look of horror took its place. When Cindy got sight of him, she was astounded to silence.

A genuinely iconic EastEnders moment was created by lingering glances and outstanding performances from Colin Salmon and Michelle Collins. The iconic Doof Doof of the show was played at the ideal moment, making us eagerly anticipate the upcoming episode.
