IN its 35 years on air, Australian soap opera Home and Away has seen many characters come and go.
But who left and joined Summer Bay in 2023?
Who is leaving Home and Away in 2023?
Roo
Georgie Parker, who plays Roo, said in March 2023 that she will be leaving the show for a little hiatus owing to other obligations.
She was cast in David Williamson’s Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica at Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli.
Her filming break will last approximately seven weeks.
Andrew
On the show, Joshua Hewson portrayed the character Andrew.
Andrew has to decide whether he wants to leave Summer Bay or stay.
Hewson announced his departure from the show on his Instagram story in March 2023.
“It was wonderful working with everyone on this show and seeing how it works; it’s given me a lot of acting experience,” he remarked.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me reach this point in my career.”
“Can’t wait to see what comes next.”
Mercedes Da Silva
Amali Golden portrays Mercedes.
The protagonist is a violinist. Remi Carter has asked her to assist the group in preparing for a Battle of the Bands competition.
In Australia, Mercedes character joined the show in late May 2023 for a brief appearance before departing in July 2023.
Tegan
Tegan is played by Sophia Forrest and is Andrew’s half sister, who reunites with him.
She came to Summer Bay to find her brother and eventually to live with him.
Andrew and Tegan leave Summer Bay together in July 2023.
Gabe Miller
Akos Armont plays Mackenzie’s ex-fiancee, Gabe Miller.
He is diagnosed with cancer and eventually dies offscreen.
From January 12, 2023 through March 15, 2023, the character appeared on the show.
Dafoe, Margot
Mandy McElhinney played Margot, who pretended to be Andrew’s mother and kidnapped him.
She is arrested and detained by the police.
McElhinney appeared on the show from May 16th through June 1st, 2023.
Who has joined Home and Away in 2023?
Mali Hudson
Kyle Shilling’s character, Mali Hudson, made his debut on January 11, 2023.
The character is a surfboard shaper who works with Dean to design and build surfboards.
Shilling is the show’s first Indigenous main character.
In a statement, he said of his casting, “If I had seen someone like me on a popular TV show when I was a kid, I would have been more motivated as a young person to better myself and explore acting.”
“As Indigenous people, we are always classified as athletes; there was never any other option I considered.”
“When you feel like you’ve been stereotyped your entire life, it has a huge impact.”
“Looking back at my 10-year-old self, if I had seen someone like Mali Hudson on such a big series, I would have wanted to be him.”
Elandra Hudson is an actress.
Rarriwuy Hick plays Elandra Hudson.
On February 26, 2023, Hick confirmed her casting on social media.
“The cat’s out of the bag,” she said.
“Guess who’s visiting Summer Bay.”
Elandra is Mali’s sister, and she came to Summer Bay to see her brother and try to bring him home to his family.
Kahu Parata is played by Jordi Webber and the character is the cousin of Tane Parata.
The arrival of Kahu is unexpected and he surprises his cousin Tane and his wife Felicity.
Harper
Jessica Redmayne plays Harper.
Redmayne is an actor and choreographer with a background in musical and stage theatre.
She is best known for playing Poppy in the Seven Network drama 800 Words.
It is unknown whether Harper will be a new love interest for cop Cash or simply a friend.
Dana
Ally Harris will play the new character Dana. While her presence on the show has been confirmed, there is no specific date for her arrival.
Ally Harris has previously been in the ABC series Harrow as well as the two-part thriller The Claremont Murders.
Forrest
However there is not much known about the new character or his arrival in the show – other than that he will be making a return later this year.
Elijah has been featured in the show before playing a character named Jason in 2018 for two episodes.
